Telangana sizzles as temperatures cross 46°C in multiple districts

Heatwave conditions have returned across Telangana, with temperatures crossing 46°C in several districts. The IMD has forecast continued heat for three more days until May 31, along with a warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across multiple regions.

Hyderabad: After a brief respite that lasted for a day, the heatwave conditions have returned across Hyderabad and districts of Telangana. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, in its forecast on Thursday indicated that heat wave conditions are likely to last for three more days until May 31, before the mercury starts to drop.

Based on IMD, Hyderabad forecast, the State will continue to experience unstable weather over the coming days due to a combination of harsh heatwave and the ongoing risk of sudden thunderstorms.


According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), between 8.30 am and 4.30 pm on Thursday, severe heatwave conditions continued to prevail in northern and eastern districts with multiple locations recording more than 46 degrees Celsius.

Tandur in Mancherial district has recorded the State’s highest temperature on Thursday at 46.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Mutharam Manthani, Peddapalli and Sangen in Warangal, both recording 46.3 degrees Celsius.

In Hyderabad, the Musheerabad region witnessed the highest temperature of 42.4 degree Celsius while Maruthi Nagar in Uppal in Medchal-Malkajgiri district recorded a maximum of 41.4 degree Celsius.

Apart from heatwave conditions, the IMD, Hyderabad, has also issued a warning for heavy thunderstorms, gusty winds and lightning between May 29 and May 31 for Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy districts.
