Hyderabad: The works on the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, which have remained on the back burner for the last one and a half year, will resume soon.
Works on Phase I of the project have been put on priority list and they would be completed by December 2025. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held by Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy with senior officials of the Irrigation Department on Saturday.
Works on the Karivena Reservoir and Package III canal between Narlapur and Yedula reservoirs of the project would commence immediately. The Minister wanted officials to ensure their completion by October 2025. The works to be taken up for completion of new reservoirs planned as part of the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme were reviewed and new schedules were finalised for their completion.
The completion of Narlapur (6.40 TMC), Yedula (6.55 TMC), Vattem (16.70 TMC), and Karivena (19.00 TMC) reservoirs would facilitate storage of approximately 50 TMC of water by December 2025 benefiting the water starved region. Additionally, Rs 262 crore has been allocated to TRANSCO for establishing 400 KV substations at Narlapur, Yedula, and Vattem pumping stations. A trial run for pump operations has been scheduled for July 2025.
As part of the measures to restore the original gross storage capacity of the Priyadarshini Jurala project to 12 TMC, which had come down to nine TMC now, desilting works would be undertaken soon.
