Warangal/Khammam: Sudden rainfall in Warangal on Tuesday soaked cotton and maize at Enumamula agriculture market leaving the farmers, already troubled by recent cyclonic rains, distressed.
Farmers complained that the CCI and traders had refused to make purchases even after the produce was weighed and was ready for transporting as it was hit by rains. They demanded the officials to intervene to ensure that the cotton purchases continue normally without any conditions.
Farmers lamented that the entire crop was soaked without even having time to move it under the sheds. Warangal and Gorrekunta recorded a moderate rainfall of 36.5 mm and 25 mm respectively, while a few mandals received light rain.
Warangal Mayor Gundu Sudharani and Municipal Commissioner Chahat Bajpai inspected low-lying areas in Bank Colony, Shanti Nagar and Pothana Nagar which were inundated with rainwater. They told the municipal staff to clear the nalas.
In Khammam, Singareni mandal recorded a heavy rainfall of 71 mm, Konijerla 48.3 mm, while a few other mandals received light rain. As a result of the sudden rainfall, cotton and other farm produce kept for drying was soaked.
