Hyderabad: The Progressive Recognised Teachers’ Union, Telangana State (PRTU TS) on Saturday said they had met Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and requested him to temporarily postpone the reopening of schools due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation and to continue with online classes along with 50 per cent teachers attending schools.

In a press note, the Union leaders claimed that the Chief Minister, following their request, has told Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy that reopening of the schools should not be done in haste and online classes should be continued with 50 per cent teachers attending the schools.

MLCs K Janardhan Reddy and K Raghotham Reddy, PRTU TS president Pingili Sripal Reddy and PRTU TS general secretary Berelli Kamalakar Rao had met the CM and Education Minister at Pragati Bhavan here on Saturday and represented issues in the education sector.

“The CM said schools will not be reopened in haste and online classes will be conducted for Classes VI to X with 50 per cent teachers’ attendance in the schools,” Sripal Reddy said.

However, so far, no guidelines or official communication from the Minister on the reopening of schools has come. After closing all educational institutions in March this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the State government had recently decided to reopen them from July 1.

According to the PRTU TS, as new districts and zones have been approved by President Ram Nath Kovind, the CM instructed the Education Minister to commence the teachers’ transfers and promotions process by dividing district wise teachers’ cadre within 10 days.

The Union leaders also said the CM positively responded to their representation for revision of PRC master scale with 30 per cent fitment, continuation of old HRA slabs, increasing all kinds of allowances, enhancing government contribution to 14 per cent for CPS employees, providing gazetted designation to teachers who obtained gazetted scale and apply old pension method to 2003 DSC recruited teachers.
