Jangaon: Telugu Desam Party leader (TDP) and former councillor Puli Swamy (53) was axed to death by two unidentified assailants near Social Welfare Residential School on Warangal highway here on Thursday.
Swamy went for a morning walk when the bike borne assailants had attacked him with axes killing him on the spot.
Speaking to media persons, ACP Vinod Kumar said that they were suspecting that a land dispute had led to the murder of Swamy. “We have got some definite clues and will nab the assailants soon. Special teams have been formed to arrest the killers, he said.
The assailants abandoned their motorcycle at the murder spot and fled, as it failed to start after Swamy was killed. Police are trying to trace the owner of the vehicle and are confident that the killers would be caught shortly. It is said that a local court had on Wednesday delivered judgment in a land dispute in which Swamy was involved.
