Peddapalli: Thieves travel 1,800kms to steal Rs 20 lakh

Raju, Veerender Kumar and Dharmender travelled all the way from their native Kathara Mafi village in Shravasti district of Uttar Pradesh, to Goliwada pump house where they committed the crime.

Peddapalli: Three burglars travelled 1,800 kms to steal Rs 20 lakh from the office of a construction company engaged in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme works.

Raju, Veerender Kumar and Dharmender travelled all the way from their native Kathara Mafi village in Shravasti district of Uttar Pradesh, to Goliwada pump house where they committed the crime. Raju and Veerender were arrested by the district police at the Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh.


The three stole Rs 20 lakh from the office of Megha Engineering Construction Company engaged in the construction works of Goliwada pump house on October 6. The burglars entered the office and fled with the cash after breaking open a cupboard where the cash was kept.

Based on a complaint lodged by the company’s PRO Murthy Narayana, Anthergoan police registered a case and formed a special team to investigate it. The police managed to gather details about the thieves with the help of CCTV footage and other evidences.

Circle Inspector, Ramagundam, T Karunakar Rao, Sub-Inspector, Anthergoan, Sridhar and constable Rajender went to Kathara Mafi located near the Nepal border and arrested Raju and Veerender and recovered Rs 1 lakh from them. Dharmender, however, is absconding.

According to police, a year ago, Veerender worked at Goliwada pump house for a month. While working at the project site, he observed that money was being kept in a cupboard. He decided to steal the money and returned to his native village after quitting his job.

A few days before the crime, Veerender along with the two others came to Goliwada and made a recce of the spot and were staying with acquaintances working in the project site.

Producing the thieves before the media, Peddapalli DCP Ravinder appreciated the police team and technical experts involved in the investigation.
