Telangana to add 5,000+ seats in government polytechnics for 2026–27

Telangana will add over 5,000 seats in government polytechnics for 2026–27, introducing new diploma courses in emerging technologies such as AI, robotics and semiconductors. The curriculum, developed with IIT Hyderabad, aims to boost enrolment and skill development.

Hyderabad: More than 5,000 new seats will be up for grabs in the government polytechnics, with the launch of new programmes in emerging technologies in the forthcoming academic year 2026-27.

Of the total, 2,400 new students will be added in new 10 diploma programmes, including semiconductor technology, advanced manufacturing technology, aircraft maintenance, automation and robotics, construction technology and management, interior design, and landscape design.


These industry-driven diplomas are aimed at increasing enrolment in the government polytechnics, besides focusing on rural, low-income and first-generation students. In addition, the Technical Education department has added 2,880 seats in core programmes, taking the total available seats in 59 government polytechnic colleges to 18,330 for the academic year 2026-27.

Apart from new programmes, new subjects have also been incorporated into the existing 25 diploma programmes to strengthen and modernise the academic framework. The subjects are fundamentals of IoT & Python programming, fundamentals of AI and ML, techno entrepreneurship and startups, systems engineering, innovation and design thinking lab and digital fabrication.

The curriculum for these programmes has been designed in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad, Confederation of Indian Industry, industry experts and alumni.

During the academic year 2025-26, a total of 115 polytechnics, including 59 government and 56 private polytechnics, offered 30,102 intakes, and 64 per cent of the seats had been filled.
