Hyderabad: To chart out an action plan and crack the whip against illegal sale and consumption of drugs in the State, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will chair a conference with the State police and excise officials at Pragathi Bhavan on January 28. The conference will review, deliberate and come up with actionable measures to be taken to strictly control drug use in the State by keeping the police and excise authorities on alert.
Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali, Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and DGP M Mahender Reddy, along with other Director Generals DGs, all the District Superintendents of Police (SPs), Commissioners, DCPs, SPs of State Excise Police and other senior officials, will attend the conferenece.
On Wednesday, the Chief Minister held a preparatory review on the issue with the Chief Secretary, the DGP and Hyderabad police commissioner CV Anand at Pragathi Bhavan on the proposed tough measures to be taken to curb drug abuse in the State. The officials from the Chief Minister’s Office and others also attended the meeting.
Chandrashekhar Rao said that those found guilty of drug abuse should be dealt with severely notwithstanding their socio-economic status. He directed the officials to prepare special plans and emphasised the need to establish a special ‘Narcotics and Organised Crime Control Cell’ (Counter Intelligence Cell) police unit with about 1,000 personnel across the State. This special unit, under the direct control of the State DGP, will carry out special operations to take strict measures to control drugs and organised crime.
