Hyderabad: The School Education department will conduct the Telangana Teacher Eligibility Test (TG TET) January 2026 in the computer-based mode from January 3 to 31. A notification will be issued on Friday, and registrations will be open on the website https://schooledu.telangana.gov.in from November 15 to 29.

Meanwhile, the State government has amended Rule 12 (exemption from passing TET) in GO MS 36, making it mandatory for all in-service teachers working in government and local body schools to appear for the TET conducted either by the State or Central government.

Earlier, teachers appointed by the competent authority in government and local body schools before the NCTE notification dated August 23, 2010, were exempted from appearing for the TET.

As per the new order, Secondary Grade Teachers and Lower Functional Literacy (LFL) school headmasters appointed with both DElEd and BEd qualifications must take TET Paper-I. Similarly, school assistants, language pandits, and high school headmasters should appear for Paper-II.

The government issued the amendment in view of the recent Supreme Court verdict mandating that all teachers, except those with less than five years of service, clear the TET within two years to retain their jobs. Teachers with less than five years of service must pass the TET to become eligible for promotions.
