Telangana to honour Poet Penna Sivaramakrishna with Kaloji Award

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has chosen noted poet, literary personality and critic Shivaramakrishna Penna for this year’s Prajakavi Padma Vibhushan Kaloji Narayana Rao Award.
The 61-year-old has made several significant contributions to various genres of modern Telugu literature.
He has to his credit 11 volumes of poetry, eight volumes of literary criticism, hundreds of ghazals and other writings. In 1991, he brought out the first collection of Telugu haiku poetry titled ‘Rahasyadwaram’. He has also penned ‘Alala meeda padava’, ‘Nissabdam naa matruka’ and other books. His writings on the Ghazal art form are popular.
In recognition of his contribution to literature, Penna, a native of Nalgonda, was earlier conferred the Telugu University Poetry Award.
Along with a cash prize of Rs 1,01,116, a memento and shawl will be presented to him.
The State government has been giving an award in the name of poet and freedom fighter Kaloji Narayana Rao every year since 2015, marking his birth anniversary on September 9.
