Hyderabad: The State government will file a review petition seeking permission to immerse Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) in Hussain Sagar lake for this year, according to Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Sunday.
The Telangana High Court had directed authorities not to allow immersion of Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris in the water body.
“Since the State was formed, all the festivals are being celebrated on a grand scale under the supervision of the government. To build and arrange artificial ponds immediately is very difficult,” the Minister said after visiting Khairatabad Ganesh Pandal. “In the GHMC limits, over 35,000 Ganesh idols are set up and ensuring exclusive immersion arrangements for them is not possible,” he added.
The Minister said the High Court will be requested to allow immersion of PoP idols this year considering the sentiments of devotees. He also said that to ensure the water was not polluted due to the immersion, the State government has made elaborate arrangements and the idols would be removed within 48 hours of immersion.
