Hyderabad: TSGENCO is all set to scale up hydel power generation up to cent per cent of its installed capacity of 2,500 MW in the State. In a first-of-its-kind move, the State government on Monday issued a Government Order according permission to TSGENCO in this regard, to prevent any obstacles for the power utility from scaling up the power generation.
The decision was taken to facilitate pumping of river water using various lift irrigation schemes spread across the State. The typical terrain of Telangana State leaves no option except to lift water from both Godavari and Krishna to fulfill the aspiration of the farmers in the State and also provide drinking water to every household in the State. While huge power supply is required to pump water to upper grounds, the State is currently recording very lower capacity utilisation of hydel power plants against its installed capacity of around 2,500 MW hydel power generation.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government wrote to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) objecting to power generation taken up by the Telangana government at Srisailam Left Power House. They requested the Board to stop water drawals through the power house. Responding to the same, the KRMB authorities requested TSGENCO officials to stop further release of water through Srisailam Left Power House immediately.
