Hyderabad: The seven day average of the daily new Covid infections in Telangana, which is hovering between 2,000 and 2,400, is expected to continue to drop and reach somewhere near to an average of 1,500 infections by June 10, according to the mathematical projections from SUTRA, developed by researchers from IIT Kanpur and IIT Hyderabad.

The daily Covid projections, which are updated on a daily basis in the website (sutra-india.in) has projected that by the end of June, Telangana will have about 587 average daily Covid infections.

With a quite uncanny precision, the SUTRA mathematical projection model has come very close to the actual and projected seven-day average number of new Covid infections. As on June 6, the mathematical model had projected that Telangana will have 1834 detected new Covid infections while the actual seven day average of Covid infections was 2191.

The SUTRA model, developed by Manindra Agrawal of IIT Kanpur, M Vidyasagar of IIT Hyderabad and M Kanitkar from Integrated Defence Staff, has also projected gradual reduction of new infections across the country in the month of June.

Based on the present trends, the researchers have said that there is a window of opportunity for many Indian states to ease the lockdown in the coming days. “As long as the general public do not go berserk, lockdowns can be eased and in some States even lifted,” the IIT Hyderabad researcher, Vidyasagar has said.

The researchers also simulated the impact of lifting the lockdowns fully and partially in several states. There is a possibility that the projections on impact of lifting the lockdowns are made public in the coming days by the researchers.
