Sangareddy: Rapid urbanisation is prompting the State government to create more municipalities in the district located adjacent to Hyderabad.

In addition to the four new municipalities created in February in Sangareddy district, officials have sent proposals for the creation of Bhanur and Indresham municipalities in Patancheru mandal. With this, the number of municipalities in the district will increase to 14 while the number will go up to eight in Patancheru constituency.

Bhanur, Nandigama, Pati, Ghanpur, Kardhanur, and Kysaram villages will be merged to make Bhanur municipality while Indresham Rameshwara Banda, Pedda Kanjarla, Chinna Kanjarla, Bachugudem and Inole villages will be made into another municipality.

While the proposed Indresham municipality will have 16,000 residents, the Bhanur municipality will have 25,000 residents. All these villages, which are to be part of these two civic bodies, are fast urbanising.

While creating four municipalities in February this year, the civic officials merged Muthangi, Pocharam, Pati, Ghanpur, and Kardhanur villages with the existing Tellapur municipality. However, now officials have decided to demerge them. While Muthangi and Pocharam will be merged into Isnapur municipality, the remaining three will be merged into Bhanur municipality.

With this, there will be no gram panchayats left in Patancheru, Ameenpur and RC Puram mandals as they were totally urbanised.

While the citizens fear that the municipal status would attract more tax burden, aspiring politicians feel that they might lose political opportunities.

The citizens further demanded that the government provide them with better facilities before imposing taxes.

The government is expected to issue a gazette notification soon creating these two new municipalities.
