Telangana: Woman constable hacked to death for ‘honour’ at Ibrahimpatnam

Hyderabad: In a case of suspected honour killing, a newly wed woman police constable was hacked to death by her brother at Ibrahimpatnam in Ranga Reddy district on the city outskirts on Monday.

The incident occurred when the victim, Nagamani, a police constable posted at Hayathnagar police station, was proceeding on her scooter from Raipole to Manneguda near Ibrahimpatnam.

According to the police, when Nagamani reached Raipole, her younger brother Paramesh, who apparently was against her inter-caste marriage, chased her and rammed her scooter with his car. When she fell on the road, he attacked her on head and neck hacking her to death with a machete. She sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot.

Paramesh did recce:

About a month ago, Nagamani had a love marriage with Srikanth who belonged to the same village, against the wish of her family members. Police suspect that Paramesh was enraged by Nagamani’s inter-caste marriage and decided to kill her. For this, for the past some days, he had been closely watching the couple’s movements.

On Sunday, being a holiday, the couple came to their native place in Raipole and stayed. However, on Monday morning, they both started to their work. While Srikanth left in his car, Nagamani was proceeding to Hayathnagar police station on her scooter when Paramesh is suspected to have waylaid and murdered her.

Land dispute

Nagamani’s parents who passed away had wished to give a 1 acre land to her as gift. However, Paramesh, who disliked his parent’s wishes had allegedly been trying to own it.

Couple was in love since a decade:

Srikanth, an agriculturalist and Nagamani both knew each other since 2011. Over a time, they started liking each other and fell in love. In 2017, her family members learnt about their relationship and opposed it, following which she had to leave the house.

It was then, Srikanth, joined her in a ladies hostel and made her study, all with his own expenses, as Nagamani was jobless then. Eventually, she cracked the police constable exam and became and joined the police department in 2021.

Even since the couple married, Paramesh had continuously threatened them with dire consequences. He dared them not to enter the village or would kill them. He had made several threatening calls to them and also created nuisance recently. The matter was also taken to the local police station and Paramesh was orally warned to mend his behaviour.
