Telangana: World Indigenous Peoples Day celebrated in Adilabad
The erstwhile Adilabad district marked World Indigenous Peoples Day with rallies, tributes to tribal icons, and cultural performances. Officials urged preservation of traditions while pledging improved infrastructure and welfare for tribal communities across Adilabad, Asifabad, Mancherial, and Nirmal districts

Adilabad: The World Indigenous Peoples Day was celebrated in grand style across the erstwhile Adilabad district on Saturday, with rallies and cultural events marking the occasion. District Collectors and Superintendents of Police participated in the programmes.
Collector Rajarshi Shah, along with Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan, paid floral tributes to tribal legends Kumram Bheem and Ramji Gond by garlanding their statues at the bus stand junction in Adilabad town. He urged tribals to preserve and pass on their distinctive traditions and culture to future generations, adding that the district administration was striving to address the problems faced by Adivasis.
Later, Shah, accompanied by ITDA Utnoor Project Officer Khusbu Gupta and Akhil Mahajan, attended a similar programme at Utnoor mandal headquarters organised by the Tribal Welfare Department. Gupta called on officials to work together for the comprehensive development of tribals and advised aboriginal communities to make full use of schemes provided by both the State and Union governments. Utnoor ASP Kajal Singh also attended.
Asifabad MLA Kova Lakshmi vowed to work towards improving the lives of tribals, promising to enhance road and bridge connectivity to tribal habitations in the Asifabad segment. Cultural performances by tribal artistes enthralled audiences. SP Kantilal Patil was present.
In Mancherial district, a massive rally was taken out from IB Chowk to Harita function hall as part of the celebrations. Collector Kumar Deepak paid homage to Kumram Bheem and Ramji Gond. In Nirmal district, Collector Abhilasha Abhinav and Superintendent of Police Dr Janaki Sharmila participated in the celebrations held at the district headquarters.
