Ten international passengers test positive for Omicron variant at RGIA

Hyderabad: Ten more international passengers who had arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad have tested positive for Omicron variant on Tuesday, taking the overall number of Omicron positive cases among international travellers and their close contacts to 94 in Telangana.
Out of the 10 Omicron positive international passengers, five travellers had arrived at Hyderabad airport from non-at-risk countries while the rest were from at-risk countries, a health bulletin released by Director of Public Health (DPH), Dr G Srinivasa Rao, on Tuesday said.
Overall, 43 international travelers from non-at-risk countries, 12 travelers from at-risk countries and 2 close contacts of international passengers have tested positive for Omicron while 37 travelers have recovered and were discharged from TIMS, Gachibowli.
On Tuesday, a total of 127 travelers had arrived at RGIA, Shamshabad out of which 8 have tested Covid positive and their blood samples have been sent for full genome sequencing to ascertain their Omicron status. Including the 8 blood samples on Tuesday, so far genome sequencing of 50 samples of Omicron positive patients are awaited.
So far, 13, 405 international passengers have undergone RT-PCR tests at RGIA Shamshabad out of which 94 were Omicron positive.
