Hyderabad: Ten students hailing from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh had a miraculous escape, after fire broke out in two apartments they live on Cullom Street of Birminham city in the USA, according to reports reaching here. Two of them were rushed to hospital, after fire service personnel rescued from the apartment on fire.

According to local media reports, fire broke out in two apartments units on 1100 block of Cullom Street in Birmingham city. As the fire tenders raced to the location brought the flames under control, However, the two apartments were completely gutted.


All the ten occupants of the burnt apartment were students of University of Alabama and hailed from Telugu States. According to an Instagram post from one of the students, the fire broke out at 6.20 p.m on Saturday in the building.

“We tried using fire extinguishers, but the fire spread too quickly. Most of us managed to escape through the backdoor, but one of our friends got trapped due to heavy smoke inhalation. Thanks to the quick response of firefighters, he was rescued. Right now, 2 of our friends are in the ICU but their condition is stable (sic)”, the post said.

The students maintained that they had lost all their belongings including clothes and documents in the devastating fire. “We are grateful to be alive, but it’s tough time for all of us”, the insta post said.

A report from online news website abc3340.com said Birmingham Fire and Rescue said “firefighters responded to the two-story structure in the 1100 block of Cullom Street South around 6.21 p.m” and that four people were rescued from the apartment fire.

Two people rescued were treated on site and released, while two others were transported to the local hospitals for further treatment. “Their conditions are unknown but considered serious”
