Bandari Devendar, a 30-year-old tenant farmer from Nacharam village in Malhar mandal, died by suicide after failing to repay a Rs 4 lakh loan. Crop failures and poor market returns left him in financial distress. Police have registered a case and begun an investigation.
Jayashankar Bhupalpally: In yet another instance of suicides by distressed farmers, a 30-year-old tenant farmer ended his life, reportedly depressed over his inability to repay loans, at Nacharam village in Malhar mandal on Sunday.
Family members said Bandari Devendar, a tenant farmer from Nacharam, consumed pesticide after failing to repay a loan of Rs. 4 lakh taken to cultivate a chilli crop. They alleged that Devendar was pushed into deep financial crisis following two consecutive years of chilli crop failure and poor prices for his produce.
Devendar did not own any land and was entirely dependent on leased farms for livelihood. The back-to-back losses and unsupportive market rates had left him struggling to make ends meet.
Based on a complaint from one of his family members, police registered a case and launched an investigation.
