Siddipet: Tension prevailed for a while at the Oil Palm Factory in Narmetta as BRS cadres and Congress workers raised slogans against each other on Thursday.
The incident occurred when former Minister T Harish Rao arrived at the venue to participate in the inauguration of the Rythu Mela, while Congress Ministers Thummala Nageshwar Rao, Ponnam Prabhakar and other leaders were present on the premises. BRS cadres raised “Harish Rao zindabad” slogans on seeing their leader, prompting Congress workers to raise counter-slogans. Police intervened and dispersed the crowd. Meanwhile, Congress Ministers and Harish Rao repeatedly appealed to both groups to remain calm and ensure that the meeting proceeded smoothly.
Despite the brief tension, Harish Rao and Nageshwar Rao displayed rare bonhomie during the meeting, appreciating each other’s efforts in bringing the oil palm factory to Narmetta and promoting oil palm cultivation.
