Warangal: Tension prevailed at Jangaon on Friday after a few Congress workers, allegedly in an inebriated condition, tried to assault BRS MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy during a programme held in the presence of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister D Anasuya.
The Minister had arrived in Jangaon town to participate in several development programmes and inaugurate a few facilities. Local MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy also reached the venue as part of the programme.
Soon after his arrival, a couple of Congress workers attempted to oppose his entry, despite BRS leaders insisting that protocol be followed. Undeterred, the Congress workers raised slogans against the BRS MLA.
BRS leaders countered with slogans of their own and, amid the commotion, a Congress worker, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, attempted to assault the MLA. BRS workers immediately intervened, restrained him and alerted the police.
The police took the Congress worker away from the venue, preventing the situation from escalating further.
