Tension in Khammam as residents protest proposed house demolitions for road widening

Khammam: Tension prevailed in the Three Town area of Khammam city on Wednesday as a large number of residents took to the streets protesting against the proposed demolition of houses for road widening in the area.
According to the residents, officials marked the houses and served notices to them a week ago. The residents of Srinivas Nagar staged a protest at the Church Compound area in the evening, and it continued late into the night.
Following the protest, a large number of police personnel were deployed in the area. ACP (Town) AV Ramana Murthy reached the spot to monitor the situation. The protesters raised slogans against the Congress government.
The protesting residents asserted that they would not stop their agitation until district Collector Divakara and local MLA and Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao visited the spot and gave a clear assurance about the safety of their houses.
