Nagarkurnool: Tension prevailed in the town on Tuesday after Congress leaders allegedly attempted to influence a BRS candidate to withdraw his nomination. As tempers ran high, police had to intervene and bring the situation under control.
The BRS candidate had filed his nomination to contest from the 15th ward. However, a Congress candidate, who had recently defected to the party, reportedly visited the BRS candidate’s residence and exerted pressure on him to withdraw his nomination.
After learning about the development, former MLA Marri Janardhan Reddy rushed to the BRS candidate’s residence. Heated arguments broke out between BRS and Congress leaders, forcing police personnel to step in.
Eventually, the BRS candidate declared that he would contest the municipal elections representing the party. Following this, Congress leaders left the place, reports said.
