Rajananna-Sircilla: Tension prevailed in Sircilla town when BRS and BJP activists clashed over the resignation of Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Monday.

Both party workers jostled with each other and police had to use force to bring the situation under control, leading to injuries to some people.

As part of their scheduled programme, BRS leaders and workers staged a dharna and rasta roko at Ambedkar Chowk demanding the resignation of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, urging him to take moral responsibility for the POCSO case registered against Sai Bageerath.

Meanwhile, BJP activists staged counter protests stating that BRS working president K T Rama Rao was responsible for the suicidal death of 22 intermediate students that occurred during the BRS government. Both groups reached Nethanna Chowk and raised slogans against each other. While BRS workers raised slogans against Sanjay Kumar, BJP workers raised slogans against Rama Rao.

Trouble began when one of the agitators hurled a slipper at the opposite group, which also retaliated. Both groups entered into arguments with each other. As the argument continued, jostling soon took place.

As the situation was slipping out of control, police lathi-charged and brought the situation under control. Later, police arrested leaders of both parties and shifted them to the police station.

A few activists from both parties were injured in the lathi-charge. Superintendent of Police Mahesh B Gite visited the spot and monitored the situation.
