TG SAFE seizes food articles worth Rs 30 lakh in Hyderabad
TG SAFE enforcement teams seized 15 tonnes of food articles worth Rs 30 lakh during inspections of 32 manufacturing and retail units in Hyderabad ahead of Milad-un-Nabi and Raksha Bandhan. Officials detected hygiene, storage, labelling and other violations
Hyderabad: Fifteen tonnes of food articles worth Rs 30 lakh were seized in the city by the enforcement wing of the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) during inspections of sweet and savoury manufacturing and retail units ahead of the Milad-un-Nabi and Raksha Bandhan festivals.
The raids were conducted as part of preventive measures to check the sale of adulterated and substandard food products and prevent food poisoning incidents during the festive season, officials said.
As many as 15 teams comprising Food Safety Officers and police personnel inspected 32 retail and manufacturing units in the Core Urban Region (CURE). During the inspections, officials detected several violations, including poor hygiene, improper storage and handling of food articles, expired food products, spoiled vegetables with fungal infestation, pest and rodent infestation, and violations of food labelling and packaging regulations. Officials also found products carrying misleading claims and advertisements.
As part of the enforcement action, 35 food samples were lifted on suspicion of adulteration and sent for analysis. The licence of Burfi Ghar at Bachupally, Hyderabad, was suspended and the establishment was directed to discontinue its business operations immediately.
The enforcement teams also issued 12 improvement notices and four show-cause notices to establishments found violating food safety norms.
Officials said the inspections would help ensure that only safe and quality food products are available to consumers during the festival season.
