Hyderabad: In what promises to offer a major reprieve for scores of techies commuting to work in the IT corridor, the roads on some stretches here are set to widen.
The works to widen the roads have been taken up at three stretches – from the IOC petrol outlet to Trident Hotel, Medicover and Kohinoor to Sattva. These works covering around 1.2 km in Madhapur when completed could bring major relief to techies.
Hundreds of employees from nearby areas including Kondapur, Hitec City, Madhapur, Gachibowli and Kukatpally travel on the roads that have been in a damaged condition and face heavy traffic congestion. During the recent rainy season, commuters were stranded in traffic jams for hours as the road condition completely deteriorated.
The stretch also leads to multi-national software companies towards Cyber City and the adjoining IT hub.
TGIIC deputy engineer Rafeeq Jani told ‘Telangana Today’ that the road widening works were delayed due to shifting of utilities including HT power cables and water and sewer lines on this stretch.
“Moreover, the rocky area became a major hurdle for the works. Now, the works are progressing at a brisk pace,” he said.
The TGIIC is spending Rs 9 crore for the road widening works and aims to complete them by May, the TGIIC official said.
