THCAA seeks Telangana-origin advocates for High Court judge appointments

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association (THCAA) on Monday resolved to urge the constitutional authorities and the Supreme Court Collegium to consider only advocates of Telangana origin for elevation as judges of the Telangana High Court, citing the need for social justice and adequate representation to all sections of society in the State.
The resolution was passed unanimously at an Extraordinary General Body Meeting held at the Advocates’ Association Hall in the High Court premises. The General Body resolved to submit representations to the Chief Justice of India, members of the Supreme Court Collegium, the Union Minister for Law and Justice, the Governor of Telangana, the Chief Minister of Telangana and presidents of various political parties, seeking due consideration for practising advocates from Telangana in future appointments to the High Court Bench.
The Association also decided to submit a representation to the Chief Justice and the Collegium on the issue. As part of its programme, the General Body further resolved to organise a demonstration at the High Court on June 17 at 1.45 p.m. in support of its demand.
