“If I had 10 extra hours in the day, I would spend that writing, shooting and editing videos in office. That’s how much I love my job,’’ starts off YouTuber Prajakta Koli, the spunky 27-year-old behind the popular YouTube channel ‘Mostly sane’ . With a whopping 6.7 million subscribers on YouTube and 3.3 million followers on Instagram, Prajakta means business.
Popular for her slice-of-life videos inspired from daily life, the mass media graduate is on a dream run. “I think it’s the relatability. My videos may not make you go haha, but they will make you think — ‘hey, that happened to me’,” feels Prajakta whose viral video ‘10 Hilarious Words Delhi-ites Use’ got the ball rolling.
After a harried 2020, where she spent most of her time at home working remotely, Prajakta has a slew of projects that will see her in front of a different audience than those on YouTube. One of which is Jug Jug Jeeyo starring Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor and Neetu Singh.
Facing the camera came easy to Prajakta, but it was the stellar dose of talent she would be working with that got her nervous. “It was a little overwhelming with how massive the cast was. Most of my scenes were with everyone.
But the nervousness lasted only till the first day, the director Raj Mehta was really helpful in making me understand the character I’m playing. I realised once the camera starts rolling, everyone is just an artiste. None of them have this vibe that ‘main toh bada actor hun’, so that made things very easy for me,” quips Prajakta whose other screen outings were Netflix’s Mismatched and Khayali Pulao.
Then there is Youtube Original series Pretty Fit where she brings in stars like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Neha Kakkar, Sanya Malhotra, Mithila Palkar and takes on different activities which test their fitness. She is also part of a docu-series about girls education with former First Lady of the US, Michelle Obama, which is set to debut in March.
Through all this, she has managed to stick to her YouTube schedule and uploads new videos every week apart from content for Instagram and credits her team for that. “I’m grateful for the life I’m living now, sometimes, it gets crazy. When I find myself struggling for ideas, I’m thankful that there is a team to fall back on,” says Prajakta, simply.
Coming out with fresh content isn’t easy, but Prajakta is pragmatic about pressure. “If one video doesn’t work, we can always make another one. I consciously don’t get entangled into the thinking, ‘is it good/bad?’, ‘will people like it’. I don’t think I create content under pressure just to stay in the game.
I have made peace with the fact that not every piece of content you put out is going to go viral,” adds Prajakta. It’s same approach she has to hate comments. “I honestly don’t think about it, ’cos the minute I pay attention to it, I feel I would be validating their existence. I will give them attention which they want. For every bad comment that comes, there is an army of supporters who come to my defence, I’m thankful for that,” signs off Prajakta.
