‘They want my chair in a week’: CM Revanth slams power-hungry loyalists

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, while speaking at the YSR Memorial Award function, revealed that some individuals were attempting to gain influence by offering support under the pretext of loyalty. Drawing parallels with the late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s era, he said true loyalty like that of K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao was rare.

Hyderabad: In a candid admission, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said there were some people keen to occupy the Chief Minister’s chair under the guise of extending support.

“After taking charge as the Chief Minister, every week one or two interesting people meet me. After discussing politics, they assure me that they would support me like former MP KVP Ramchandra Rao did for former Chief Minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy,” he said.

“Stressing that I don’t have to worry or work a lot, they assure me they will take care of everything,” he added while speaking at the YSR Memorial Award presentation here on Tuesday.

Revanth recalled that YSR faced many hurdles within the Congress party and government. Though he was first elected as MLA and Minister in 1978, he did not hold any positions till 2004, despite Congress being in power at various times. Amidst those challenges, KVP Ramchandra Rao extended unconditional support, he said.

The Chief Minister remarked that there would only be one YSR and one Ramchandra Rao for this generation. “These days I do not find Ramchandra Rao’s qualities in any person. There are people, whom if we permit inside for a week, the next week they will occupy the Chief Minister’s chair and run the show,” he said, adding that he was speaking from personal experience.

Promising to carry forward YSR’s legacy, Revanth assured that the Pranahita-Chevella project would be constructed at Tummidihatti to supply Godavari water to erstwhile Rangareddy district. He also said that works on the SLBC tunnel, suspended in February this year, would be completed.
