Gampa Lenin Kumar of Suryapet district with the miniatures of iconic structures he built using SIM card frames.

Suryapet: How small can iconic structures like the Charminar, Taj Mahal and Howrah Bridge get? Well, Gampa Lenin Kumar, a mason from Nemmikal village in Nuthankal mandal of the district, has ‘built’ miniatures of over 50 iconic structures using SIM card frames.

Making miniatures with SIM cards is a hobby of Lenin Kumar, a native of Nemmikal village of Nuthankal mandal in Suryapet district. The miniatures prepared by him range from structures of national importance to local ones.

He built a 4.5 inch miniature of Hitec city and an eight inch Charminar among several others and he even coloured them to give an attractive look.

Kids in his village would often come to his house to watch these miniature structures and Lenin would use this as an opportunity to explain the history and details of these structures to those kids.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Lenin said that being a mason helped him to use his skills to build the miniature structures. He added that he collects SIM card frames from mobile shops in Suryapet, 16 km away from where he lives. He said that most customers leave SIM card frames after removing SIM cards at the cell phone shops itself. He said that the miniature of Hitec City, which he built using 50 SIM card frames, was his best so far.

He further said that a lot of people have been coming forward to buy the miniature structures but he added that he was not interested in making money from them. He said that he would give the best of his miniatures to a local school or library and hoped that it would help him in bringing more recognition to the art as well as help him in imparting knowledge to the children about the famous structures in the country.

He said that his dream is to make miniatures of ancient forts with SIM card frames and conduct an exhibition.
