Hyderabad: The Forest department on Wednesday arrested a farmer and two other persons for attempting to sell the nails and teeth of a leopard after killing and burning it in Srisailam forest.
Producing K Krishnaiah and his two accomplices before the media, Nagarkurnool district forest officer Krishna Goud said the leopard died after being caught in a trap laid by the farmer in his field on November 20.
He took the leopard to the Srisailam forest in Mallelatheertham in Amrabad mandal on Hyderabad-Srisailam highway and burnt it. He then collected 18 nails and four teeth of the leopard and attempted to sell them with the assistance of his two accomplices.
Goud requested the farmers to inform the forest department officials if any wild animal was caught in a trap laid in the fields. A separate contact number would be provided for the convenience of farmers, he added.
He said compensation would be provided to farmers who suffered losses after wild animals attacked the fields.
