Warangal: Three children have drowned in two separate incidents in the erstwhile Warangal district on Monday. The deceased children were Banoth Ramyasri (9) and Vasanthi (12) of Dubba Thanda of Taurya village of Kesamudram mandal in Mahabubabad district and Parvatham Jayaraju (10) of Tarigoppula village in Jangaon district.

According to police, four girls from the tribal hamlet have gone for a swim in the SRSP canal near the thanda. They had ventured into the canal using a rope by tying to a wooden pole that was set up by them by digging the soil using a crowbar. “But they had fallen into the canal and got washed away due to strong current of water. Fortunately, we could save two other girls who managed to hang on while holding some twigs on the canal bank,” said a villager who rescued the girls. The bodies have been fished out and shifted to the Mahabubabad area government hospital for postmortem.

A pall of gloom descended on the Thanda with the untimely death of two innocent girls. The parents of the deceased are eking out a living as farm labourers. The children had reportedly not gone to school as they wanted to go for a swim as the temperatures were on the rise. In another incident at Tarigoppula village, P Jayaraju, a 5th class student, died due to drowning when he was attending nature’s call at Pedda Cheruvu at the village in the morning. Jayaraju with his father Sudhakar and family members had come to the village on Sunday to participate in the first death anniversary rituals of Sudhakar’s father on Monday as Sudhakar is living in Madikonda village near Warangal.
