Hyderabad: Two construction workers died and three others sustained serious injuries after allegedly falling from the fifth floor of a multi-storey building under construction at Al-Hasnath Colony in Tolichowki on Thursday.
According to the police, the incident took place while the workers were engaged in work at the site around 4 pm. The wooden scaffolding support tied to the exterior of the building on which they were standing and doing plastering work suddenly collapsed, causing five labourers to fall from the fifth floor to the ground.
Due to the fall, two workers, identified as Adinarayana and Tirupathi, suffered multiple grievous injuries and died on the spot, while three others sustained serious injuries. The injured workers were shifted to a nearby private hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. The condition of one of them is said to be critical.
“The wooden bamboo sticks which were used as a support seemed to have been overused. Instead of replacing old ones, they had been using worn-out bamboo sticks when constructing all the floors. We suspect this weakened them and caused the accident,” said a police official.
On receiving information, officials from both Tolichowki and Mehdipatnam police stations reached the spot and took up rescue operation. Based on jurisdiction, the Mehdipatnam police began an investigation into the incident.
