Hyderabad: Terming the suicide of three farmers in Telangana in a single day deeply alarming, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said it reflected the return of agrarian crisis seen in Telangana during the undivided Andhra Pradesh era. He held the Congress government responsible for these deaths and demanded an immediate ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh each for their families.
The farmers’ deaths were reported from Adilabad, Medak and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts. The deceased were identified as Jadhav Ankush of Adilabad, Devsoth Sarvesh of Medak and Kodela Sadanandam of Bhupalpally, and
Taking to X, Rama Rao observed that mounting debt and unfulfilled promises had pushed farmers to despair. He said the suicides exposed the government’s failure to ensure effective implementation of crop loan waiver, Rythu Bharosa investment support and fertiliser supply, which had affected crop yields. He alleged that farmers were being pushed into distress despite repeated assurances by the Congress.
Pointing out that nearly 900 farmer suicides had been reported since the Congress came to power in the last two years, the BRS leader said the government had failed to respond with urgency. He appealed to farmers not to lose hope and wait for a couple of years with patience.
“The Revanth Reddy government will pay for the hardships caused to farmers. We will dethrone the anti-farmer government and ensure better future for farmers,” he added.
