Hyderabad: Three persons who were smuggling ganja were caught by the Prohibition and Excise officials at Uppal on Saturday. The team seized 200 kg ganja valued at Rs.16 lakh and a car from them.
The arrested persons were identified as Mohana Krishna (36) of Anantapur, Naragan Somaiah alias Shoban (36) of Janagaon district and Bontha Yadagiri (24) of Nalgonda district.
S Chandra Shekhar Goud, SHO Uppal P&E station said the three persons were carrying the contraband in a car after purchasing it from a person in Narsipatnam in Vishakapatnam and transporting it to Nalgonda when they were intercepted and caught following a tip off.
“Mohana Krishna works with the district armed reserve in Ananthapur in Andhra Pradesh. He suffered loss in cricket betting during the recent IPL matches and to overcome it, started sourcing ganja from Narsipatnam along with his associates,” said the SHO.
A case is booked and investigation going on.
