Bhupalpally: Three persons, including an SSC student who appeared for his first exam on Saturday, died while another was seriously injured after a crane fell into an open well at Korikishala village of Mogullapalle mandal in Bhupalpally district.
According to police, a farmer, Sukine Deva Rao (45), along with his brother Sukine Mohan Rao and a labourer S Paidaiah (45), were engaged in removing silt from the well using a soil-lifting crane. When the incident occurred, the trio was sitting on the crane to balance the machine while the crane’s bucket was lowered to lift the soil. They also called the SSC student, Bandari Abhilash (14), who was passing by, to sit on the machine as more counterweight was needed.
However, the machine lost its balance and all four sitting on it fell into the well, which was nearly 30 feet deep, along with the machine. Deva Rao, Paidaiah and Abhilash died on the spot, while Mohan Rao suffered grievous injuries.
The crane owner Shivaratri Kanaka Raju, who was inside the well, escaped unhurt in the incident. The local police rushed to the spot and, with the help of locals, retrieved the bodies, which were shifted to the district government hospital at Bhupalpally for post-mortem.
