Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Police Special Operations Team nabbed three persons including a police constable on charges of drug peddling at Hayathnagar on the city outskirts on Wednesday. Officials said the suspects peddled hashish oil (Cannabis oil) from the Chinthuru agency of East Godavari in Andhra Pradesh to Hyderabad.
Police seized five litres of hashish oil, a car, cash, and mobile phones, altogether worth Rs.20 lakh from them. The arrested were identified as Shaik Mujeeb Pasha (31), an Armed Reserve Police Constable of Khammam District Special Party, and Mohd Afroz (23), both from Khammam and Ch.Upender Rao (23) from Bhadradri-Kothagudem. The absconding suspect is G Venkatesh (25), a trader.
According to the police, Afroz and Mujeeb Pasha are close friends and recently got acquainted with Upender Rao and Venkatesh, both involved in peddling hashish oil from the agency areas of Andhra Pradesh.
“Police in both the Telugu States have intensified their surveillance on the illegal transportation of marijuana. As drug peddling became difficult, Afroz and Mujeeb Pasha decided to peddle hashish oil over dry marijuana,” said an official.
They contacted Upender Rao and Venkatesh who procured the drug from a known supplier in Donkarai village of Chinthuru and brought it to Khammam. The duo purchased hashish oil for Rs 1 lakh per litre and planned to sell it for Rs 3 lakh in Hyderabad and its surroundings. While they were coming from Khammam to Hyderabad in a car along with Rao, the police acting on a tip-off nabbed them near Hayathnagar. They were handed over to the Hayathnagar police for further investigation.
