Adilabad: Three youngsters were killed on the spot, while another sustained serious injuries when a car overturned on NH-44 on the outskirts of Tharoda village in Jainath mandal on Tuesday night. Drunk driving was suspected to be the cause of the accident.

Police said the victims, identified as Shaik Moinuddin (27), Shain Moin (27) and Keerthi Sagar (29), all daily-wage earners hailing from different parts of Adilabad, all aged between 22 and 30 and residents of Adilabad town, suffered fatal injuries after the vehicle turned turtle and plunged into agricultural fields abutting the national highway around 11 pm.

The injured person, identified as Yogesh, a painter from Adilabad. Yogesh was shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Adilabad, where his condition remains critical. Shaik Moinuddin, who was driving the car at the time of the mishap, supposedly lost control of the car at a curve, leading to the deaths of the three passengers and causing severe injuries to Yogesh, police said.

The four were returning to Adilabad after partying in Wani of Maharashtra when the accident occurred. All of them were reportedly inebriated at the time of the mishap. However, police said it was tough to establish whether the four were intoxicated leading to the accident.

On receiving information, Jainath police rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to RIMS-Adilabad for postmortem. Based on a complaint received from Yogesh, a case has been registered and investigation is on.
