Hyderabad: Three minor boys died after their scooter went out of control and crashed into a road median on the newly inaugurated Dr Manmohan Singh flyover at Aramghar in Rajendranagar in the early hours of Tuesday.
This is the first accident reported on the four-kilometer long flyover since its inauguration earlier this month. A rash and negligent driving is suspected to be the reason for the mishap, police said.
The victims were identified as Mohd Imran (16), a tenth grade student, Maaz (14) and Ahmed (14), both eight grade students. All three were friends and residents of old city.
According to Attapur police, the mishap occurred when the trio was proceeding on Maaz’s scooter from the old city towards Aramghar around 1 am.
“The speeding two-wheeler went out of control and crashed into an electric lamp pole and the road median over the flyover near pillar number 53. Due to the impact, the three friends fell metres away from the crash spot and suffered grievous bleeding injuries. While Maaz died on the spot, others were declared brought dead at the hospital,” the police said.
Police said they were investigating if the trio had come out on a joy ride or to attend night prayers as claimed by their family members.
Other motorists on the flyover alerted the police who reached the spot and shifted the bodies to the Osmania General Hospital.
The Attapur police are investigating. The CCTV footage enroute in is being examined.
