Three-month-old dies after being administered polio drops in Sangareddy

A three-month-old infant died shortly after receiving polio drops in Bhimra village, Kangti mandal, Sangareddy district, raising alarm among locals. Health officials have launched an inquiry, though no similar cases have been reported from the same batch of vials.

Sangareddy: A three-month-old boy died minutes after being administered polio drops at Bhimra village in Kangti mandal on Sunday, triggering concern among locals.

The boy, born after three daughters to Swarnalatha and Umakanth, reportedly fell ill soon after Asha workers Roja, Samudra, and Swaroopa administered the drops. The infant began crying continuously and vomiting before he stopped breathing.

The parents immediately rushed him to the area hospital at Kangti, where doctors declared him dead. Later, the body was shifted to the government hospital in Narayankhed for postmortem.

Officials have launched an inquiry to determine the cause of death. Kangti PHC medical officer Dr. Nagamani said the same batch of vials had been distributed to all villages in the mandal and no similar incidents were reported elsewhere. She added that a detailed report had been submitted to higher officials for further investigation.
