Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Collector Rahul Raj and Field Director to Kawal Tiger Project CP Vinod Kumar consoled the kin of the tribal girl Nirmala, who was killed by a tiger, and promised to extend all help from the government. They toured Kondapalli village in Penchikalpet mandal on Monday.
Terming the incident as unfortunate, Rahul interacted with Lasmakka, Nirmala’s mother, and brother Rajanna. He assured them that he would strive for extending monetary aid on behalf of the district administration. He said that he had requested the government to enhance the ex-gratia and brought this issue to the notice of authorities concerned.
The IAS officer also promised to support the education of Nirmala’s four siblings, considering the abject poverty of the family. He promised to provide employment opportunity to one of the kin of the girl. The Collector informed that a standard operating procedure would be prepared for preventing recurrence of similar incidents and for avoiding human loss in future.
The Collector instructed the authorities of the Forest Department to take steps for creating awareness among tribals and villagers living near forests, who are prone to man-animal conflicts. He requested the locals to use traditional methods for handling the menace. He then visited the attack site and enquired about the incident with the foresters.
Special Monitoring Teams
Meanwhile, Vinod Kumar said that a committee comprising Conservator of Forests, District Forest Officer and Sarpanch, Forest Range Officer, a representative of NGO was formed for framing an action plan to tackle the menace. He stated that masks, vigils, trumpets and other material would be given to locals to avert confrontation and attacks by animals.
He further stated that special monitoring teams were formed to track the movement of the animal round the clock. He informed that images of stripes of the big cat were shared with the core team of NTCA and counterparts of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve for ascertaining the identity of the tiger. He added that two trap cages were set up for trapping the animal.
DFO Shantaram, Kaghaznagar FDO Vijay, Forest Range Officers S Venugopal and Purnima, DSP BLN Swamy, Tahsildar Raghupathi, Mandal Parishad president Jajimogga Srinivas, Sarpanch Upasi Sanjeev among other officials were present.
