Tiger kills 38-year-old farmer in Maharashtra’s Beed district
A 38-year-old farmer was killed by a tiger while cutting fodder on a hill near his home in Maharashtra's Beed district. The animal dragged his body nearly 500 metres into bushes before fleeing after villagers approached.
Beed: A 38-year-old farmer was killed by a tiger in Ashti tehsil of Beed district on Saturday morning, an official said.
The incident took place at around 8.30 am, said Range Forest Officer Amol Munde.
Devidas alias Pintu Manik Takale, a resident of Takale Vasti near Deolali, was cutting fodder on Sonipathar Hill near his house when the animal attacked him from behind.
The tiger dragged Takale nearly 500 metres into a thicket of thorny bushes, the official said.
When Takale’s son arrived to help carry the harvested grass back home, he found blood and heavy drag marks.
The boy ran back and alerted others. Armed with sticks and axes, a group of villagers advanced towards the scrub when the tiger abandoned the body and bolted into the deep forest.
Two days earlier, a full-grown male tiger from the Tipeshwar sanctuary had been spotted in the Ashti forest range after crossing over from Patoda tehsil where it had killed livestock.
“We strongly urge farmers and villagers to avoid going into forested and hilly areas,” Munde said.
