Adilabad: Movement of a tiger triggered panic among villagers in different villages of Thamsi mandal after a gap of a month. Pugmarks of a tiger were spotted on a road leading to farms on the outskirts of Gunjala and Dhanora villages on Thursday and Friday.

Farmers said they noticed tiger pugmarks on the road between two villages. They suspected that a tiger might be wandering in the forests and could be wandering through the farms in search of prey. They alerted local forest officials and urged them to take steps to track its movement by installing CCTV camera traps and using animal trackers.

Villagers recalled that a tiger had killed a calf in Gollaghat village on February 3. The forest officials had installed CCTV camera traps and deployed trackers to trail the tiger. Officials said the tiger disappeared later, leading to suspicion that it might have moved into neighboring Maharashtra’s forests.

Forest officials clarified that a tiger from the Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary (TPS) in Yavatmal district might have crossed Penganga a fortnight ago. They suspect that it might have moved into Yadadri-Bhongir district after crossing Nirmal, Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts.

However, it is yet to be ascertained whether the tiger seen in Yadadri was the same as the one sighted in Thamsi. They are contacting their counterparts in Jagtial district where it was sighted a few days ago.
