Tirupati: As the number of Covid cases are increasing steadily in the State, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Saturday cancelled the Tirupati by-election meeting scheduled to be held on April 14.
The Chief Minister, in an open letter to the voters, pointed out that on Friday alone the State reported 2,765 new infections, including 496 in Chittoor and 296 in Nellore districts, which come under Tirupati Lok Sabha (SC) constituency.
“If I attend the Tirupati meeting, thousands will come there. But, public health and happiness is important for me and as a responsible Chief Minister, I am cancelling my Tirupati meeting,” he explained, adding that he had already addressed letters to every family in the constituency on the benefits accrued to them during the past 22 months rule of the YSRC government.
Jagan also urged the voters to elect the party candidate Gurumurthy with a huge majority.
