Toddler dies of asphyxiation after alcoholic father sleeps on her in Nirmal
Khanapur Sub-Inspector Rahul Gaikwad stated that a 28-day-old baby girl, who was wrapped in a cloth, died of suffocation after her intoxicated father, Allakunta Shekhar, unintentionally rolled onto her while sleeping on Monday night. He discovered the baby was unresponsive and not crying when he woke up around 6 a.m. the next morning.
Nirmal: A toddler died due to asphyxiation when her alcoholic father allegedly slept on her at Subhashnagar in Khanapur on Tuesday. The father was booked and arrested on Wednesday.
Khanapur Sub-Inspector Rahul Gaikwad said that an unnamed 28-day-old baby girl, wrapped in a cloth, died as she was unable to breath after her father, who was in an inebriated condition, rolled sideways and slept on her on Monday night. The accused person, Allakunta Shekhar realized that the baby died when she did not cry nor move after he woke up at 6 am.
Since the baby was wrapped in a cloth, Shekhar did not notice her and as usual slept on the bed. The baby died of asphyxiation when her father slept on her for around 7 hours. Shekhar’s wife Rajamani woke up only to learn that her toddler lost her life to sheer negligence of her husband.
Rajamani had delivered the baby recently. The couple have a son and daughter.
Based on a complaint received from Rajamani, the mother of the baby, a case was registered against Shekhar, a daily wage earner under 105 (culpable homicide) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. Investigations were taken up.
