Mancherial: The Mancherial unit of the Telangana Psychologists Association (TPA) organised a day-long mental health awareness programme for inmates at the sub-jail in Luxettipet on Saturday, as part of the ongoing World Mental Health Week observances.
TPA Mancherial unit president Dr Rangu Venukumar and the association’s state vice-president, Dr B Narayana Rao, addressed the inmates on mental health, emotional regulation, self-confidence, personality development and positive thinking. They said the programme was organised under the guidance of TPA state president Dr Motkuri Laxman.
Venukumar told the inmates that prison life was not the end of the road but an opportunity for transformation. Learning from past mistakes and changing one’s outlook could lay the foundation for a new life, he said. Anger, rage and impulsive decisions could affect a person’s life, but need not determine their future, he added.
Narayana Rao said positive thinking, the ability to cope with adverse situations and self-control were essential for mental well-being. He urged the inmates to move forward with confidence, adopt a responsible lifestyle and not lose hope.
He also said that, after their release, inmates could rebuild their relationships with their families and become responsible members of society.
Sub-jail superintendent Tejawath Swamy, jail staff and inmates attended the programme.
