Sangareddy: The committee fighting against pollution of Nallakunta Cheruvu in Domadugu village accused the pharma company, which is allegedly releasing effluents into the lake, and officials of hushing up the issue by taking up beautification works at the water body.

In a press statement on Monday, the committee said that the pharma company had not cleaned up the water in the lake, but was instead taking up beautification works. Telangana People’s Joint Action Committee (TPJAC) convenor Y Ashok Kumar said the harmful effluents were flowing into the Nallakunta Cheruvu from the pharma company and eventually entering agricultural fields located downstream.

Despite people repeatedly raising the issue and staging protests at the lake, Ashok Kumar said the pharma company had failed to take up measures to clean the water body. He said that the industry had also failed to stop the release of effluents.

Kumar accused the Gummadidala MRO and the Municipal Commissioner of supporting the pharma company management instead of backing the people. The TPJAC demanded that the government force the industry to stop the release of effluents permanently.

Otherwise, they warned of launching a massive protest. Even though a case relating to the pollution of the lake was pending before the National Green Tribunal (NGT), Kumar alleged that the officials were trying to erase evidence by taking up development works at the lake.
