Hyderabad: Alleging unfair treatment by officials, private junior college managements on Tuesday demanded the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TG BIE) withdraw fines imposed on colleges. The managements’ warned that they would lay siege to the Board’s office with a large number of students if no decision was taken by November 1.
Telangana Private Junior Colleges Management Association (TPJMA) said 544 colleges were fined Rs.1 lakh each without prior notice. The association alleged that affiliation approvals were still pending for 122 colleges, contrary to the Board’s claim that all institutions had received them.
The TPJMA said fire no objection certificates (NOCs) submitted by 52 colleges, initially suspected to be fake, were later found to be genuine. Another 24 colleges had also submitted genuine certificates, but their approvals remained pending. The association claimed that fines of Rs.5 lakh to Rs.8 lakh had been imposed on some colleges.
The private junior colleges demanded an inquiry into alleged financial irregularities in the Board, including the transfer of deposits from public sector banks to private banks and CCTV camera purchases. It sought action against officials responsible for earlier approvals and wanted equal enforcement of rules against corporate colleges.
