Hyderabad: Traffic authorities are closely monitoring developments at IIIT Junction in Gachibowli, as the civic body moves ahead with plans to construct three flyovers and an underpass to ease chronic congestion in the bustling IT corridor.

The proposed infrastructure works by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) aim to streamline vehicular movement at one of the city’s busiest intersections, connecting Gachibowli, Kondapur, and the Financial District. However, with groundwork yet to commence, traffic police say they are adopting a cautious ‘wait and watch’ approach for now before finalising diversion strategies.

G Ranjan Ratan Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-I), Serilingampally Zone, said it was early to outline a detailed traffic management blueprint. “Once the groundwork begins, we will assess the on-ground situation. Depending on traffic density and peak-hour flow, a comprehensive regulation plan will be implemented,” he said.

The IIIT Junction area witnesses heavy traffic throughout the day, particularly during office hours, owing to the presence of major IT firms, educational institutions and residential complexes. Commuters frequently experience bottlenecks, especially during evenings and weekends.

Officials indicated that coordination meetings between the traffic wing and GHMC engineers will be held before construction activities intensify. The police are expected to deploy additional personnel, install temporary signage, and create diversions to ensure minimal disruption.

“We are always on alert and in action mode when it comes to resolving traffic issues,” the DCP added, assuring that real-time adjustments would be made to prevent prolonged snarls.

Local residents and IT employees have welcomed the long-term infrastructure proposal but urged authorities to announce diversion routes in advance and improve public communication to avoid confusion.
