Tragedy prevails over Nirmal’s village where funeral of four held simultaneously

Nirmal: A pall of gloom descended over Pardi, a small village in Kubheer mandal, where the funerals of four pilgrims killed in a road mishap in Maharashtra on Monday were held simultaneously on Tuesday.

Relatives, friends and villagers gathered in large numbers to bid a tearful farewell to Thum Sailu (65), Avula Gangadhar (64), Thum Gourubai (75) and Thulasiram Patel (28), who died when a jeep overturned at a curve near Thotamba village in Nanded district.

While Sailu, Gangadhar and Gourubai belonged to the same community, Thulasiram, the driver of the jeep, belonged to the Maratha community.

Family members were unable to come to terms with the deaths of the four and wept inconsolably, moving everyone present at the cemetery. The loss of four lives in a single accident, an unprecedented event in the village’s history, left the entire village shaken.

Sarpanch Madi Praveen, former MPP Thum Laxmi, former ZPTC member V. Rekha Mohan, leaders of various political parties and others took part in a procession that carried the bodies from their homes to the cemetery.

The tragic mishap occurred while they were returning to Pardi after visiting a temple in Maharashtra.
